People who applied for Unique Identification Number can now download their Aadhaar letter

In what may come as a great relief to those waiting for delivery of their respective Aadhaar letters, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), has recently launched the facility of e-Aadhaar.

As part of this initiative, now those who have applied can download their digitally signed printable Aadhaar letter from the UIDAI website. Talking about the facility, CS Mishra, assistant director general, UIDAI, regional office, Lucknow, said, "The facility of e-Aadhaar is for those residents whose Aadhaar number has been generated (can be checked on our website) but is yet to reach them. A printout of e-Aadhaar is as good as the original Aadhaar letter. Ultimately, it is the Aadhaar number that matters."

Talking about some other initiatives, Mishra said: "Now, we are offering the facility of updating your demographic data as well. This can even be done online." In simpler terms, in case your Aadhaar letter has any transliteration/typographical or factual error or needs an update in fields like name, gender, date of birth, address or mobile number, the same could be rectified by submitting an online request. Residents can do the same through offline mode as well. Detailed information for this is available on the UIDAI website.

All the data update requests submitted for update in Hindi and Urdu are being handled by the Lucknow office of the UIDAI. On this, Mishra added, "We have a dedicated team for this task. A significant observation has been that residents, by and large, are not reading the instructions carefully and submitting incomplete requests. This causes avoidable inconvenience to them."

It now remains to be seen how well the residents utilise the services offered by the UIDAI.
