MPs suggest, to develop Gomtinagar as a major station



BJP MP from Lucknow Lalji Tandon has asked railways to develop Gomtinagar as a major station. Tandon made the demand in a meeting between North Eastern Railway (NER) general manager KK Atal and MPs from Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. Atal told the members of Parliament about the railways' efforts to provide better services to passengers, operation of new trains, route extension of existing trains, cleanliness on-board trains and at stations. The divisional railway manager, NER, VK Yadav made a presentation on the beautification of stations at NER.

Congress MP Jagdambika Pal asked for world class facilities at Nautanwa and other stations important from tourism point of view. He also demanded a railway line along the Indo-Nepal border, connecting Kapilvastu to Bodhgaya, a rail link to Kathmandu, running LTT-Gorakhpur superfast and Gorakdham Express from Barhni station and developing Gomtinagar as the world class terminal. Rajya Sabha MP Kusum Rai demanded strict action by railways to control crime against women on trains. MPs also demanded improved services of rail enquiry, clean railway stations and punctual operation of trains. It was collectively demanded that incidents in which railway personnel harass women passengers should be strictly checked.

The development of stations along the Indo-Nepal border which are important for promotion of Buddhist tourism, like Barhni, Nautanwa, Nepalganj and Raxaul was demanded by Lok Sabha MP Harshvardhan. Lok Sabha MP Vinay Kumar Pandey demanded a rail connectivity between Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Utraula and Khalilabad. Congress MP PL Punia demanded posting of gateman at unmanned level crossings.
